Digital Nostalgia

21/22

Nostalgia is all around us. It is in the TV shows we watch, the clothing we wear, the branding we see and the products that are sold to us. References to the past are strategically placed everywhere in our media to bring on an emotional response.

Digital Nostalgia is a book that explores the impact that video games from the late 90s and early 2000s had on me. These early instances of playing with technology would leave a lasting impression on myself and others, and lead me to have a passion for digital art. Throughout five chapters I recount my favorite games from Barbie Fashion Show to Super Mario Kart, and how their bright graphics still haven’t left my mind. This book also includes a QR code to a video compilation I made that shows the video games I discuss in their true form.

Through reading this book I hope that readers can reflect fondly on their own childhoods and the forms of media that stick with them today.
