The Value in Values: Meditations on color

25/26

This project explores how we see and use color, and why we're often afraid of it. Western culture has long treated color as something secondary, tacky, or even dangerous. Most of us gravitate toward neutrals, blacks, whites, and grays, relegating bright hues to children's toys or to being "too much." But what if color isn't the problem?

This project takes three forms. A book serves as visual research and meditation, examining color through images and ideas. A coloring book encourages people to add color to ordinary things. A calendar brings color into everyday life, offering gentle daily encounters rather than big, intimidating gestures.

All three objects share a common goal: to show that color deserves celebration. Color is powerful and should be embraced. It connects to how we feel, how we express ourselves, and how we experience the world. By creating space for color in different contexts, this project argues for its value and pushes back against the idea that seriousness must be monochrome.
