Subway Seat

Spring 2020

I created this photo essay to show the feelings we all share as a society. I based it on the subway because most people, no matter economic class or age, take the subway at some point here in New York. The subway is an equalizer--everyone sits in the same seats and everyone feels the same loneliness while riding. There is one paragraph that runs throughout the book, it highlights different parts of the whole at each page. This also goes to show that no matter who you are, we all feel the same and we are part of a whole. The book ends, however, with a smile--a basic gesture that anyone can make to connect us all. As children, we are taught about the power of a smile, yet somehow we as a society forget this. But every once in a while we remember, and we don't feel as alone.
